Clinical Experience

Dr Whalen is Board Certified as a chiropractic neurologist, and has extensive experience in a variety of chiropractic techniques. He has more than 30 years experience in patient care, beginning as a psychiatric assistant in various mental health facilities as an undergraduate, followed by almost ten years as an emergency department and Life Flight helicopter nurse before completing chiropractic school. He has more than 20 years experience in treating a wide variety of conditions as a Doctor of Chiropractic, and has worked with a number of different specialists, including spending two years working in one of the largest medical family practice offices in the East County. Dr Whalen has extensive experience in treating a wide variety of clinicl conditions, focusing primarily on neuromusculoskeletal conditions, work and auto injuries.

Dr Whalen has been a leader in the chiropractic profession for more than 20 years on both the local, state and national level, including:

• Chair, Council on Chiropractic Guidelines and Practice Parameters (2005-06) (the national organization developing chiropractic "Best Practices")

Teaching Experience

Dr Whalen has extensive experience teaching other doctors, including MD’s and DC’s. He has lectured on a variety of subjects, including clinical and management issues, but primarily teaches workers’ compensation courses, including basic and advanced work comp, and disability evaluation courses for MD’s and DC’s which are required to sit for the Qualified Medical Evaluator certification by the State of California’s Division of Workers’ Compensation. He has provided dozens of programs on a variety of topics over the past ten years.
